  2. Argh! What short notice! But at least we got some. If you can't get enough Ninja... and enjoy movies like SAW and Hostel... okay, maybe Sin City... then indulge in all that is Ninja Assassin! I just got back from a showing in Hollywood and yikes. Brutal! Funny that it's actually a lot like the ninja movies from the 80s but visually to the extreme! Anyways. TURTLES FOREVER!

  4. I've been waiting almost 13 years to see my turtles again! I just can't belive it acually happened! For that I must thank you.

It looks fantastic and a good look at both verses.....Only thing is the '87 bunch are a bit more goofy then they actual were.

  7. I've been waiting *cough*im*cough*patiently since San Diego to see this again. It really truly was the highlight of the 25th Anniversary.

Turtles Forever is a monumental work of fanservice, and though I don't necessarily know that we deserve it, I'm truly thankful that you think better of us regardless.

    Thank you again.
    For everything.

  8. Tygermanic,

Are you saying you also saw the movie and didn't like it? Or that anything with CG sucks? i.e. turtles forever would not be considered good unless it was completely hand animated?

    Just wondering.

BTW - Turtles forever is awesome! But not in a Ninja Assassin way.

  9. Been waiting "forever" for this one, definitely looking forward to tomorrow morning...question for ya Pete:

This image you posted is in 150 dpi, is there anywhere where a bigger/higher res version may be found? I've been wanting to get a giclee print made of it in 27x40 for a while now, so I can hang it up with my other TMNT movie posters, but when you resize this one in photoshop it's still a little too fuzzy to get a really good print out of it.

  10. Already have my Directv box programmed for WPIX channel 11 out of NYC, which airs CW stuff, for 10 am! I can not WAIT! X3

  13. It was incredible! A bit condescending towards the 1980s turtles, but all in good fun. Great to see all the old gang, and brief appearances by some b-characters from the 80s toon. Loved the Miller-esque mirage turtles, and your brief "cameo" at the end !!

Will be getting this on DVD as soon as it's available!

  14. Excellent piece to mark the end of an era. Was that really you and Eastman at the end, though?

  15. Heck of a lot of fun that was... Loved catching all the shots of the alternate turtles, including a slightly animated shot of Jim's current style. What a fun way to cap the 25th anniversary. Loved how the ending blended into the first issue of the book. Congratulations on all the success this represents, Pete. You and Kevin should always be proud of this universe you created.

  16. Around of Applause for Turtles Forever ! From Philly Pa.

  17. That was an absolute masterpiece. I am a little at a loss for words as to just how good it really was. I was extremely moved by the ending with you and Kevin, and the Mirage animation looked stunning. This was a wonderful bookend to the series, and also helped to provide a better closing for the '80s toon as it's true ending was a little lackluster in my opinion, but this really helped to make up for it.

I just can't say enough good things about it. For a long time TMNT fan, this was like a dream come true on many levels.

Huge props to you Peter, and to Lloyd Goldfine, and all the 4kids and Mirage staff that brought this project to fruition. Simply outstanding.

  20. I really enjoyed it, especially the last 20 mintues or so with the Mirage turtles the only thing that could have toped it would be seeing the rooftop battle with them and the Mirage Shredder. Awesome work to everyone that was involved in making it. It was very very impressive.

I'd love to see Viacom do something very much more like the classic turtles at the end I cant get enough of the B&W animated boys they were bad ass too, I'm very happy :)

  22. Holy crap! The turtle movie to end all turtle movie! I hope that puts the Turtles in a really good place for you guys especially after the sale! What an awesome sendoff!

  23. I had several laugh-out-loud moments throughout. Loved the running bit with '88 Raph breaking the fourth wall. Oh, and '84 Leo narrating the fight? Goosebumps.

  24. My jealousy levels just hit an all time high! AHHHH you lucky lucky people! after i read the bit about seeing the turtles from all 4 movies...well...i got a little excited. thanks for the updates folks. ill put mine up WHEN i see it. (im in Australia). and most of all thanks Pete!!

  25. I just finshed watching it on my DVR and say its the best saturday morning since the turtles "returned" in February 2003. Brings a tear to my eye. I was very very happy to see this. It is a real character study seeing the different versions of the same characters. I do feel that the '87 turtles were too much joksters that they weren't. Say what is with the 4kids calling them '88 instead of '87? I would love to see something done with this further!

  26. I was sad that some good stuff was trimmed, but I was wildly happy on the whole to see it again. I got to be in that lucky group in San Diego to see it for the first time. I am SO longing for this to be released on DVD. And the ending made me tear up. I especially enjoyed seeing the Mirage Turtles animated! I never had an attachment to the OT-- but it was sweet!

And THIS time I knew to look for Stan Sakai's "Turtles"-- I saw the original painting and if I could I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Anyway, it was NEAT hearing Kevin's and your voices at the end.

  27. Rats! I had a commitment, so missed it. This is the second time I've had time conflicts. The first was San Diego, of course. I'll have to wait for the DVD.

    @PL

Have you spoken to Kevin recently, how is everything between you two.

and, has there been any news about a future DVD release of "Turtles Forever", maybe you and Lloyd Goldfine could do commentary.

  30. I've got to know if there's any insight that can be given about casting voices for the OG Mirage Turtles. I mean, there have been different Turtle voices for pretty much every iteration, but it's always felt like there has been a certain level of consistency in how they sounded, particularly between Leo, Mike, and Don of 87 and 2K3.

But the Mirage Turtles were like something else entirely. Can you tell us anything about how that came about?

  31. thanks alot,PL,it was great.
my friends all agreed too but they didnt know any 2k3 backstories.
    (theyre 18-23)
but i made sure they knew mirage, haha

is that how you and kevin eastman imagined the mirage turtles voices?

  32. "Tyrgermanic said...

that how you and kevin eastman imagined the mirage turtles voices?"

Believe it or not, I have never spent any effort or time in trying to imagine how the Mirage Turtles would sound if they spoke. The voices of the Mirage Turtles in "Turtles Forever" were picked by Lloyd and the 4Kids crew, and I was happy with them.

Actually, I've been happy with ALL the voices the Turtles have been given in their various TV and movie incarnations. -- PL

I haven't spoken to Kevin in a long time, but I did get a nice congratulatory email from him shortly after the announcement of the sale to Viacom.

"and, has there been any news about a future DVD release of "Turtles Forever", maybe you and Lloyd Goldfine could do commentary."

I'm not aware of any DVD plans, but I would be happy to do a commentary, especially if Lloyd was involved too.

Actually, it might be cool if a select group of fans was gathered to do a commentary track as well. Might be something to suggest to the new owners. -- PL

  34. I'd very much like to see a commentary, beind the scenes or a making of sort of thing would be cool. I hope it does make it to DVD at some point at the very lest. It would be a shame if it never get released.

I very much enjoyed the Mirage Turtles voices as well :)

If YOU suggested it, that is.

If you mean WE should suggest it-- the days of actually having contact with the people in charge of all things Ninja Turtles (i.e., you and Gary and the others) are over. I seriously do not see Viacom/Nick actually doing anything other than possibly send out a form email response.

You or Gary, on the other hand, I'm sure would have more chance. Peter Laird has more "voice" than Cynthia Fluharty. ;)

  36. I have nothing but great things to say about the long-awaited Turtles Forever movie. So, so good...

I made my girlfriend get up with me Saturday morning and watch it with me (actually, i didnt have to "make" her, she's a legit true-blue longtime Turtles fan as well) and we both absolutely loved it. It was exciting and at times absolutely hilarious. I was giggling like the fanboy I am throught the whole thing.

So, so cool. And yeah, the last part certainly brought a tear to my eye. Definately an end of an era.

Congrats, you guys. And thank you infinately for giving that to the fans.

  37. Mr. Laird,

What a wonderful film Turtles Forever is. Like many here, I too laughed out loud at times and did, at the end, tear up a bit. In some ways, it was like watching pieces of my life flash before my eyes.

I do have a question that I hope you can help answer. Why weren't any of the voice actors from the original series brought in to contribute to Turtles Forever? I recently watched the interview segment with those actors on the Season 5 DVD, and it seemed that they would have had gladly climbed on board.

Anyway, thanks so much for these wonderful characters who, frankly, are every bit as much a part of my life as my own family. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors!

    -Adam

  38. I can't believe I was sitting down to watch Saturday morning cartoons after so many years. I loved seeing the turtles of my childhood back on TV, even if they were much goofier than they originally were. I loved how the different incarnations poked fun at each other, great stuff. The Mirage Turtles were amazing to see, such a great fan service. It's been a little sad saying goodbye to Mirage a little bit at a time, but this was great.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I know it would've been utterly impossible, but boy it would've been fun to see the Mike Zulli, Rick Veitch, and Mark Martin versions of the TMNT as well. A veritable Crisis of Infinite Turtles.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I had stopped watching the new cartoon when it became "Fast Forward", but I had to check this out and I'm glad I did. People here are saying it was a masterpiece and I think even I have to agree. My only complaint is the lack of the original voice actors, but I guess that comes down to Union problems. And Barry Gordon was the head of the Screen Actors Guild, let's not forget. But the replacement voices were pretty good. The story was great and I'm happy that pretty much everybody made at least a cameo appearance. Hope there is a DVD or Blu-Ray release soon!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well I couldn't think of too many more deserving people to be possibly invited to a commentary than you now Cynthia ;)

Mind you, if they want to fly a rabid 20 year veteran British fan over for it, I'd be right into doing something like that too :p

Back on topic, I grabbed it from the usual places to watch as it's unlikely to be shown over here. Loved it. Especially loved the way the 80s universe looked just like the original cartoon...

  42. This was awesome ! Any chance of a DVD release ?

    ReplyDelete
  43. pretty good stuff man, my only peeve was the voices for the original cartoon turtles being very different from how they were in the old show. That did not hurt the movie though. I freaked out when they arrived in the comic universe with the background from issue #1, that was epic. Can't wait to buy a great quality 16:9 DVD, the airing was very poor on my HD since they put it in standard with black bars on the top and bottom forcing me to crop it to full screen. Really good movie though. thanks for sending it off right.

Simply wonderful. The perfect capper to three different eras of the Turtles.

I suspect there is, though I no longer have any control over that. I think fans should start showering Viacom/ Nickelodeon with nicely-worded, enthusiastic letters requesting such a release. I think it makes a lot of sense and would probably be a money maker. -- PL

  48. -->> Little sad the "FATHOM" screening didn'tt pan out. Seeing this on the big screen is quite a different experience than on the small-

i really wish you guys could have seen it that way..

very powerful, and the effect on a large screen is even more of a memorable experience !!

With Peter's introduction to the show last summer and Emily's presence kinda representing her Pop and most of the Mirage crew at hand it was not only so memorable, but very surreal .

I am very grateful for that. It was once in a life-time, an event.

    So thank you, Pete.
